Worcester Terraces: Getting Rubbish Through to the Skip
St John’s has older buildings close to the pavement and passages leading behind them. A passage may help you carry waste out without giving the lorry access.
Explain the walking routeSay if old fittings must come through the front door or along a private passage. Keep shared doors usable.
Do you have private space?Measure a yard or drive separately from the public pavement. A narrow strip outside the house may not fit the whole skip.
Give the delivery entranceIf a rear yard has vehicle access from another road, name that road and describe the gate when you call.
The person helps you picture the size. Cubic yards tell you how much space is inside, not how much weight the skip can hold. Sizes vary, so confirm the measurements and access when you call.
Worcester Road Skips Use the County Permit Process
Worcestershire County Council handles skip permits for public roads in Worcester. Arrange this before relying on a space near the centre.
Allow up to five working daysThe county says a skip application can take up to five working days to process. Confirm approval before delivery.
The operator appliesThe county requires the company doing the work to apply for the licence. Ask how this is included in your quote.
Longer hire needs permission tooIf the job runs over, request extra road time before the permit expires. Extending the skip booking alone is not enough.
Putting out your own cones does not reserve a piece of public road. The county has a separate licence for “No Waiting” cones.
Name any parking baysGive the exact street signs and bay markings. Confirm any parking suspension needed for that spot as well as the skip permit.
Cones have their own licenceWorcestershire requires permission for No Waiting cones on the highway, even for a short period. Do not set them out yourself to claim a space.
Protect the lorry’s approachLeave room to enter and collect the skip. A vehicle’s parking permission does not authorise a skip or guarantee an empty bay.
